Interior atmospheres

With the help of (very patient) 3d artist Ricardo Rey I created a room to test different lighting and materials in. After reading “A Pattern Language” by architect Christopher Alexander, I wanted to keep investigating what creates warmth and atmosphere in a room. I realized that natural light is often enough to transform even the humblest place.

Then additional materials and colors can add additional stimulation and effects (I had fun with that part).

Architect Peter Zumthor, master of atmosphere, puts it beautifully: “I have to admit that daylight, the light on things, is so moving to me that I feel it almost has a spiritual quality. When the sun comes up the morning— which I always find so marvellous, absolutely fantastic the way it comes back every morning— and casts its light on things, it doesn’t feel as if it quite belongs in this world. I don’t understand light. It gives me the feeling there’s something beyond me, something beyond all understanding. And I am very glad, very grateful that there is such a thing.”
